Thu Nov 07 14:12:19 UTC 2024: ## Indian Army Denies Deadlock in Disengagement Talks with China in Eastern Ladakh

**NEW DELHI, INDIA -** The Indian Army has refuted reports claiming a deadlock in military talks with China regarding patrolling modalities in eastern Ladakh’s Depsang. In a statement released on Thursday, the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) of the Indian Army dismissed the reports as “speculative and bereft of facts.”

The statement addressed reports published earlier this week that alleged roadblocks in the disengagement process at Depsang and Demchok, two areas where India and China have been engaged in a protracted standoff since 2020. The Army clarified that disengagement in both areas has been completed and implementation of the agreed upon consensus is underway. This includes a return to traditional patrolling routes for both sides.

The Army further stated that there have been no obstacles or objections raised by either side during this process.

The ADGPI also urged media outlets to verify information before publishing reports on sensitive matters, particularly those concerning national security. The statement cautioned against the dissemination of “unsubstantiated or misleading information,” emphasizing the need for responsible journalism.

This statement comes after India and China reached an agreement on October 21 to resume patrolling in Depsang and Demchok. Both sides agreed to return to their positions as they existed prior to the 2020 standoff. The agreement also included dismantling of structures and restoration of the land to its original condition.

Last month, the disengagement process was completed, and both the Army and the government confirmed that patrolling has resumed in both Depsang and Demchok.
