Thu Nov 07 23:06:02 UTC 2024: ## One Direction Star Liam Payne Found with Drugs, Alcohol in System: Three Charged in Death

Buenos Aires, Argentina – Toxicology tests have revealed that One Direction singer Liam Payne had cocaine, a prescription antidepressant, and alcohol in his system at the time of his death. Three individuals have been charged in connection with his passing, according to the Argentine prosecutor’s office.

Payne, 31, died on October 16th after falling from a third-floor balcony at the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires. His death was ruled a result of multiple injuries sustained in the fall.

Authorities have charged a person close to Payne, a hotel employee, and a suspected drug dealer. The individual who was with Payne at the time of the incident is also charged with “abandonment of a person followed by death.” The identities of those charged have not been released.

All three are accused of contributing to Payne’s access to drugs. The investigation is ongoing, and it is unclear whether the drugs contributed directly to the fall.

Payne’s death sparked widespread grief among fans and fellow band members. The singer had publicly discussed his struggles with alcoholism in a YouTube video posted in July 2023, revealing he had been sober for six months after seeking treatment.

Initial police investigations found Payne alone in his hotel room, experiencing what authorities described as a “breakdown.” Following his death, police discovered substances in his hotel room, including clonazepam, energy supplements, and over-the-counter drugs. A whiskey bottle, lighter, and mobile phone were also recovered from the courtyard where his body was found.

The Casa Sur hotel has become a memorial for Payne, with fans leaving flowers, candles, and photos at the entrance. Payne had traveled to Argentina to see former bandmate Niall Horan perform in concert two weeks before his death.
