Thu Nov 07 17:05:43 UTC 2024: ## IMD Issues Cyclone Alert: Heavy Rains and Storms Expected in South India

**New Delhi, November 6, 2024:** The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cyclone alert for South India, predicting heavy rainfall and strong winds in several states until November 12.

The alert stems from a cyclonic circulation forming over the Bay of Bengal. This will trigger a Western Disturbance, bringing gusty winds, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and even hailstorms to coastal states.

The IMD has specifically warned of strong winds and heavy rainfall in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Puducherry, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands until November 12.

The alert has been issued following a significant shift in weather patterns across India post-Diwali, with cold temperatures settling in across the country. While the minimum temperatures in most parts of the country have remained relatively stable, a slight drop was recorded in Mahe.

The IMD has advised residents of the affected states to stay alert and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period.
