**Hyderabad, November 7, 2024:** A 45-year-old maid, Askari Begum, was arrested by the Sultan Bazaar police on Wednesday for attempting to kidnap a newborn from the Government Maternity Hospital in Koti. Begum, a resident of Rein Bazaar, was caught by hospital security and Telangana Special Police Force officials as she tried to leave the Labour Room with the baby.

Superintendent of the Hospital J. Anuradha filed a complaint against Begum. Investigations revealed that Begum was a habitual offender, having been involved in at least nine similar cases between 2014 and 2023 in various areas of Hyderabad. She was at the hospital to assist her daughter, Fathima Begum, during her delivery.

According to police, Begum was approached by an unknown man who offered her ₹50,000 for a baby. She then attempted to kidnap the baby of another patient, Rahmatunissa Begum, from the Labour Room on Tuesday night, but failed. She tried again on Wednesday morning, but was apprehended by security personnel.

Begum is currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the man involved in the crime.
