Thu Nov 07 10:05:33 UTC 2024: ## England Suffer Another Caribbean Defeat as West Indies Secure Series Victory

BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS – England’s struggles in the Caribbean continued on Sunday as they suffered a crushing 209-run defeat at the hands of the West Indies, losing their fifth series in the region in less than three years.

The hosts secured their second eight-wicket victory of the series thanks to centuries from Keacy Carty (128 not out) and Brandon King (102). The pair’s dominant 209-run partnership proved too much for England to handle.

Despite the loss, England captain Liam Livingstone highlighted the challenging conditions in Barbados, which saw the pitch transform drastically under the floodlights and dew. “The pitch went from being slow to start with, to being absolutely drenched at the end,” Livingstone said. “It’s no excuse, we didn’t get enough runs, but even if we’d got 350 I don’t think it’d have mattered.”

England’s batting lineup suffered a disastrous start, losing four wickets in the powerplay. However, Phil Salt’s patient 74 off 108 balls helped England recover and post a competitive total. Sam Curran (40) and Dan Mousley (57) also contributed with impressive innings.

A freak injury to West Indies bowler Romario Shepherd in the 42nd over proved to be a turning point in the match. Shepherd was forced to retire due to cramps, leaving the West Indies with only four bowlers available. England capitalized on this opportunity, scoring 57 runs off part-time medium pacer Sherfane Rutherford in just 3.5 overs.

Despite a late fightback, England were ultimately unable to contain the West Indies’ scoring rate. King and Carty’s centuries helped the hosts secure a comfortable victory, adding another series triumph to their impressive record against England.

The defeat raises concerns about England’s performance in the 50-over format, particularly the underwhelming performances of Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid.

England will be looking to improve their performances and regain some confidence ahead of future challenges in the ODI format.
