Thu Nov 07 11:01:17 UTC 2024: ## Dance Interpretation of Shankaracharya’s Teachings Captivates Hyderabad

**HYDERABAD, INDIA -** A captivating performance of Adi Shankaracharya’s Ashtakams, a collection of spiritual hymns, was recently showcased at the newly opened Saptaparni auditorium in Hyderabad. This marked the eighth presentation of the project, which has toured various cities across India.

Conceptualized and compered by dance expert Usha Rk, the performance featured a team of accomplished dancers interpreting the spiritual teachings of Shankaracharya through dance. The Ashtakams, set to music composed and rendered by Vidya Harikrishna, were presented with distinct themes and styles.

“We began this journey in Mumbai and have since traveled to Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Mumbai again,” shared Usha. “The performance at Kashi on Vinayaka Chaturthi was particularly significant, as we presented the Ganga Ashtakam at the historic Shankaracharya Chowk.”

Usha, a former director of the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Center in Moscow, has a unique background combining corporate experience with a deep passion for dance. She transitioned from corporate-sponsored classical shows to creating thematic performances that narrate stories through dance.

“Traditional dance forms are naturally descriptive,” she explains, highlighting the ability of dance to visually express words and emotions.

The Ashtakam performances are poised to continue based on audience demand and sponsorship support. Usha is also exploring the possibility of presenting a performance dedicated to Mahakaal in Ujjain.

This captivating fusion of dance, spirituality, and music is a testament to the enduring power of art to bridge cultural divides and inspire audiences.
