Wed Nov 06 20:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Aston Villa Aim for Champions League Last 16 Spot with Brugge Clash

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has challenged his team to seize their opportunity to advance closer to the Champions League last 16 when they face Club Brugge in Belgium on Wednesday.

Following three consecutive victories in their maiden Champions League campaign, Villa currently sit atop the group. A win against Brugge would propel them towards a top eight finish in the group stage, guaranteeing their place in the knockout rounds.

“Tomorrow we have the possibility to take a step forward in this competition, to be a contender in the top eight,” Emery told reporters on Tuesday. “This is an amazing objective we can achieve, but we need to be fully focused.”

Emery acknowledged the potential for surprises in the competition, emphasizing that Villa’s current position as an underdog could see them progress further than anticipated. However, he also cautioned that consistency is vital for their success.

“We are not playing as consistently well as we need to. If we can’t do that, it will be difficult to achieve our objectives,” Emery said. “We need to be more intelligent than other teams, both tactically, mentally and emotionally.”

The match against Brugge comes after a disappointing 4-1 loss to Tottenham in the Premier League and a League Cup defeat to Crystal Palace. Villa will need to bounce back from these setbacks and maintain their strong form in the Champions League if they are to secure a place in the last 16.
