Wed Nov 06 16:25:04 UTC 2024: ## Ireland Women’s Cricket Team Embarks on Youthful Bangladesh Tour

DUBLIN – Ireland’s Women’s Cricket team will embark on a challenging tour of Bangladesh later this month, marking their first visit to the Asian nation in 10 years. Led by the newly appointed permanent captain Gaby Lewis, the squad boasts a youthful average age of under 23, with a strong core of experienced players including Laura Delany and Lewis herself.

The six-match multi-format series, which will be played from November 27th to December 9th, includes three ODIs counting towards the ICC Women’s Championship. All matches will be live-streamed on the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s Youtube channel.

Head Coach Ed Joyce expressed his satisfaction with the squad’s depth and competition for places, highlighting it as a positive sign of progress. He noted the selection of three spinners, considering the sub-continental conditions, and praised the batting line-up’s ability to score big runs in both formats.

The return of Laura Delany from injury will provide a significant boost to the middle order, while her bowling abilities allow for the flexibility to include an additional batter if needed. The squad’s balance is further enhanced by the presence of two all-rounders in the top four and the opening position being filled by wicketkeeper Amy Hunter.

The Ireland Women’s team is sponsored by Certa, a leading fuel and oil provider in Ireland. Their upcoming tour of Bangladesh promises to be a test of the team’s youthful talent against a formidable opponent.
