**Gaza City, November 6, 2024** – Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are pinning their hopes on newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump to end the devastating war with Israel. The conflict, sparked by Hamas’s October 7 attack, has left thousands dead, displaced most of Gaza’s residents, and plunged the territory into a humanitarian crisis.

“We want peace, we need someone strong like Trump to end the war and save us,” said Mamdouh al-Jadba, a displaced resident of Gaza City. Similar sentiments were echoed by other residents, who see Trump’s past support for Israel as a potential leverage point for ending the bloodshed.

However, in the occupied West Bank, Trump’s victory has been met with apprehension. Many fear his return to power will exacerbate the already volatile situation and favor Israel’s interests over Palestinian concerns.

“Trump is firm in some decisions, but these decisions could serve Israel’s interests politically more than they serve the Palestinian cause,” said Samir Abu Jundi from Ramallah.

During his previous term, Trump made several controversial moves concerning Israel, including relocating the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, and facilitating the Abraham Accords, which normalized ties between Israel and several Arab states. Trump’s campaign rhetoric provided some hope for peace. He pledged to bring an end to global conflicts and even hinted at a swift resolution to the Gaza conflict. His statements, however, have also been met with skepticism, particularly from Palestinians in the West Bank who fear he will be biased towards Israel.

The war in Gaza has claimed over 43,000 lives, mostly civilians, according to figures from the Hamas-run territory’s health ministry. Israel has reported over 1,200 deaths, mostly civilians, since the conflict began.
