Thu Nov 07 07:28:35 UTC 2024: ## Nepal and India Boost Energy Cooperation, Expedite Hydropower Projects
**Kathmandu, November 7, 2024:** Nepal and India have agreed to fast-track several hydropower projects and strengthen cooperation on energy, water resources, and other key areas, Nepal’s Energy and Water Resources Minister Deepak Khadka announced on Wednesday.
Minister Khadka, who recently concluded a visit to India, met with Indian Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Water Resources Minister C.R. Patil. During the discussions, both sides agreed to expedite the Pancheshwar Multipurpose Project and the Arun Third hydropower project.
India has pledged to support Nepal’s efforts to provide drinking water and irrigation facilities in hilly areas by installing solar panels. The two countries also discussed electricity trade, transmission line construction, and flood control mechanisms.
In a significant development, Nepal has requested permission to use an Indian transmission line to export 40 MW of electricity to Bangladesh under a tripartite agreement. Bangladesh has already granted permission for this export from July 15 to November 15. India has expressed a positive response to Nepal’s request and assured that permission will be granted soon.
These developments highlight the growing partnership between Nepal and India, particularly in the energy sector. The expedited hydropower projects and enhanced cooperation are expected to benefit both countries, contributing to economic growth and regional stability.
