**Darranga, Assam:** The first Integrated Check Post (ICP) along the India-Bhutan border was inaugurated at Darranga, Assam on Thursday, November 7, 2024. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, with the presence of Prime Minister of Bhutan Dasho Tshering Tobgay.
The ICP, spanning across 14.5 acres and situated 700 meters from the border, boasts modern facilities, including an office complex, parking areas, loading and unloading zones, a weighbridge, a warehouse, and residential quarters for officials. It also includes inspection spaces, plant quarantine systems, and parking facilities to ensure efficient operations.
The project was developed by the Land Ports Authority of India. Its strategic location further enhances its significance, connecting to National Highway 27 near Rangia on the Indian side. On the Bhutanese side, it’s connected to the robust customs infrastructure at Samdrup-Jongkhar, facilitating efficient trade. Ongoing improvements to the highway from Samdrup-Jongkhar to Tashigang are anticipated to further improve connectivity and trade prospects.
The new ICP is expected to significantly boost trade between India and Bhutan, creating opportunities for economic growth and development in both countries.
