New Orleans Saints fans are hoping for a quarterback solution after the retirement of legend Drew Brees. While veteran Derek Carr has returned from injury, rookie Spencer Rattler was thrust into action during Carr’s absence.
Brees recently compared Rattler to another young quarterback, Denver’s Bo Nix, highlighting their similarities in athleticism and play style. “I think there’s a lot of similarities between Spencer Rattler and Bo Nix,” said Brees, “They’re both really athletic guys. The Saints were under center a lot more. I think that’s how they set up their run game and their play action. Spencer Rattler was on the move so much, throws the ball and runs very well – very similar to Bo.” However, both players need improvement in the passing game, according to Brees.
Rattler’s performance has been inconsistent in his first year, with some bright moments but also a 26-8 loss to the Chargers where he was benched. With Carr’s history of injuries, the Saints face a dilemma at backup quarterback.
Despite the struggles, the Saints are focused on ending their current seven-game losing streak. Their next opportunity comes against the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday.
