**Hubballi, November 7, 2024:** Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has dismissed the visit of Jagdambika Pal, Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigating the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, as a “political drama” aimed at influencing the upcoming elections.
Speaking to reporters in Hubballi on Thursday, Mr. Shivakumar stated that the issue is a “State subject” and the BJP initiated the process of issuing notices to farmers regarding land acquisition in 2019. He emphasized that the current government is committed to safeguarding the interests of farmers and will rectify any errors in the process.
Mr. Shivakumar accused the BJP of attempting to shift blame onto the Congress, alleging that the JPC had no authority to intervene in the matter. He questioned the motives of the JPC chairman’s visit, suggesting it was politically motivated.
The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s stance, asserting that it will not allow any farmer to face hardship and that the issue will be resolved fairly.
