Thu Nov 07 12:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Clemente Family Divided Over Trump Endorsement

**Pittsburgh, PA** – The family of legendary Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Roberto Clemente is facing division following one son’s endorsement of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Roberto Clemente Jr., who resides in Pennsylvania, publicly supported Trump during a rally at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh on Monday, stating that he believes in Trump’s “goodwill and unity.” His statement was met with swift disapproval from his younger brother, Luis Roberto Clemente, who lives in Puerto Rico.

Luis Clemente, in a video posted to Facebook, emphasized that his brother’s actions do not represent the entire family. He went on to say that he would defend Puerto Rico and its people from any negative remarks, referencing recent comments made at a Trump rally where Puerto Rico was called a “floating island of garbage.”

“We live in a democracy, and everyone has a right to vote for whoever they desire,” Luis Clemente stated, adding that he and his brother have recently spoken but Roberto Jr. never mentioned his intent to endorse Trump.

The Clemente family’s division comes at a time when both Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are vying for support in the Puerto Rican community, particularly in Pennsylvania and other key states.

This situation highlights the complex and sometimes contentious nature of political endorsements within families, particularly when the endorsement is of a figure who has faced criticism and controversy.
