**Saran, Bihar:** As the nation celebrates the grand Chhath Puja, a couple from Saran district is setting an example of devotion and perseverance by observing the festival together for the past nine years. Deepak Kumar Singh and his wife, Rekha Devi, from Jamalki village in Parsa Thana area, have made it a yearly ritual to perform the fast together, demonstrating unwavering faith in the goddess Chhathi Maiya.
Deepak Kumar, who was fascinated by the fervor surrounding Chhath Puja during his younger days, had always wished to participate. However, due to challenging family circumstances, he couldn’t fulfill this desire. After marriage and the birth of his children, their family life improved, and his wife, influenced by her mother, encouraged him to undertake the Chhath Vrat. Together, they decided to embark on this spiritual journey in 2016.
Their commitment to the tradition is evident in their dedication to performing the “Dand Pranam” or “Bhui Padi,” a form of prostration where devotees crawl on their knees towards the holy river. Despite the distance and rough terrain leading to the Chhath Ghat, their unwavering faith fuels their spirit, allowing them to overcome physical challenges. The couple believes that the divine blessings of Chhathi Maiya and the Sun God provide them with the strength to complete the arduous journey.
Deepak Kumar emphasizes that the annual Chhath Puja is a chance to express their gratitude to the divine and seek blessings for their family, society, and the nation. This act of faith not only strengthens their bond with their cultural heritage but also brings positivity and energy into their lives.
The couple’s devotion to Chhath Puja exemplifies the power of tradition and faith in enriching individual lives and strengthening the fabric of society. Their story inspires others to embrace their cultural heritage with unwavering commitment and find strength in their beliefs.
