Thu Nov 07 01:47:15 UTC 2024: ## Biden Congratulates Trump on Victory, Invites Him to White House for Transition Meeting
**Washington, D.C.** – In a call Wednesday, President Joe Biden congratulated President Donald Trump on his victory in the 2024 election. The White House released a statement confirming the call, stating Biden expressed his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition of power and emphasized the importance of working together to unite the country. Biden invited Trump to the White House for a meeting to discuss the transition, which Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung confirmed will take place shortly.
“President Trump looks forward to the meeting, which will take place shortly, and very much appreciated the call,” Cheung said in a statement.
Following his call with Trump, Biden also spoke with Vice President Kamala Harris, congratulating her on her historic campaign. Biden praised Harris in a statement released later, highlighting her leadership and calling her a “tremendous partner and public servant.”
“Under extraordinary circumstances, she stepped up and led a historic campaign that embodied what’s possible when guided by a strong moral compass and a clear vision for a nation that is more free, more just, and full of more opportunities for all Americans,” Biden said.
Harris also spoke with Trump on Wednesday, according to the Trump campaign. Harris told Trump she will work with Biden to ensure a peaceful transfer of power, unlike the 2020 transition, according to an email from Harris campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon.
The White House indicated that Biden plans to address the election results and transition process in further detail on Thursday.
Harris’ defeat came as Trump secured victories in key swing states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Wisconsin overnight. Trump extended his lead with a win in Michigan on Wednesday.
