Wed Nov 06 22:23:31 UTC 2024: ## Afghanistan Clinch First ODI Victory Over Bangladesh in Sharjah
**Sharjah, UAE:** Afghanistan secured a resounding victory over Bangladesh in the first One Day International (ODI) match of the series, winning by 92 runs. The win gives Afghanistan a 1-0 lead in the series, with two more games to go.
The match was a thrilling affair, with Bangladesh initially looking comfortable chasing down a target of 235 runs. However, a sensational bowling performance from the Afghan spinners, spearheaded by Player of the Match **AM Ghazanfar**, turned the tide in Afghanistan’s favour. Ghazanfar delivered a career-best six-wicket haul, taking wickets at crucial moments and dismantling the Bangladeshi batting order.
After a shaky start, Afghanistan’s lower order, led by Mohammad Nabi and Hashmatullah Shahidi, managed to post a competitive total. The hosts’ spin attack then applied relentless pressure, taking wickets at regular intervals and suffocating the Bangladesh run chase.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto acknowledged his team’s poor batting performance, praising Afghanistan’s spinners and highlighting the significance of Mohammad Nabi’s dismissal. “Our batting was the primary reason for this loss,” he said. “Nabi’s wicket was the main difference, we needed a batsman to stay till the end, and we didn’t have that today.”
Afghanistan captain Shahidi was pleased with his team’s performance, particularly praising Ghazanfar’s brilliance. “AM Ghazanfar is a special talent and a good kid, he was just on the money in the second spell,” he said. “We believed we could defend 235 runs, and the bowlers did an amazing job.”
The second ODI will be played on the 9th of this month, again at Sharjah. The match will begin at 10 am GMT, with pre-match build-up starting an hour earlier.
