Wed Nov 06 13:38:55 UTC 2024: ## Trump on Verge of Victory, Winning Pennsylvania and Putting Him Just Three Electoral Votes Away from Presidency

Donald Trump is poised for a stunning return to the White House, having secured victory in Pennsylvania and placing him just three electoral votes away from defeating Kamala Harris. Trump currently holds 267 electoral votes, needing only three more to surpass the 270 threshold.

A win in Alaska or any of the remaining battleground states – Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, or Nevada – would guarantee the former president’s return to the Oval Office. He currently leads in Michigan and Wisconsin, with his path to victory in those states relying on Harris failing to secure enough votes in key counties.

Trump’s victory in Pennsylvania, a state he won in 2016 before it flipped back to Democrats in 2020, marks a significant shift in the political landscape. He also flipped Georgia, which had voted Democratic in the previous election, and retained the closely contested state of North Carolina.

Trump’s campaign focused on cutting into the Democratic base of Black and Latino voters, employing a strategy of appealing to those groups through male-centric podcasts and explicit racial appeals. While Harris appears to have garnered slightly less support from these groups compared to Joe Biden in 2020, Trump’s support among them appears to have increased.

The election saw a strong turnout, with voters largely encountering a smooth process despite minor disruptions reported throughout the day. Federal officials confirmed that bomb threats reported in multiple states were not credible and did not impact voting.

Beyond the presidential race, voters across the nation were deciding thousands of other races, including control of Congress and state ballot measures on abortion access. Notably, a ballot measure aimed at protecting abortion rights in Florida failed to meet the required 60% threshold, marking the first time such a measure has failed since the overturning of Roe v. Wade. However, voters in several Democratic-leaning states approved similar measures.

While Harris addressed her supporters on Election Night, Trump celebrated his victory with his supporters in Florida, emphasizing his commitment to “fix” the country’s borders and other issues. His win would mark the first time a former president has returned to power since Grover Cleveland in 1892.

The election results highlight a nation deeply divided and desperate for change, with voters responding to issues like immigration and inflation. The GOP also gained control of the Senate, with Trump-backed candidates flipping seats in Ohio and West Virginia.
