**Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, November 6, 2024:** Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced a slew of development projects for Coimbatore, including a ₹126-crore jewellery industrial park, a ₹300-crore multi-modal logistics park, and a ₹220-crore aviation technology park. The announcements were made during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the new Thanthai Periyar Library in the city.
The jewellery park, to be located in Kurichi, is expected to generate 2,000 direct and 1,500 indirect jobs. It will feature a NABL-accredited testing lab and cater to Coimbatore’s prominent role in the global gold jewellery industry. The multi-modal logistics park and aviation technology park are both planned near Sulur.
The Thanthai Periyar Library, a ₹300-crore project spanning 1,98,000 sq. ft., will be built on the Coimbatore jail ground premises in Gandhipuram. This state-of-the-art facility will be a valuable resource for learning and knowledge, opening its doors in January 2026.
In addition to these major projects, Mr. Stalin announced the development of a new large IT park on 17.17 acres of land near the ELCOSEZ in Tidel Park, expected to generate 36,000 jobs. The Avinashi Road flyover will also be extended from Chinniyampalayam to Neelambur, covering a 5-km stretch at an estimated cost of ₹600 crore.
To address human-wildlife conflicts in the Thondamuthur area, modern elephant-resistant barriers will be installed over a 10-km stretch at a cost of approximately ₹7 crore. The Chief Minister also outlined plans for integrated drinking water projects worth ₹26 crore and ₹51 crore, benefiting several villages in the region.
Following his two-day visit to Coimbatore, Mr. Stalin announced a ₹200-crore special project for repairing roads across the Coimbatore Corporation area. These extensive development initiatives are expected to significantly boost Coimbatore’s economic growth and create a more sustainable future for the city.
