**HYDERABAD, November 6, 2024** – Telangana’s Minister for Health, C. Damodar Rajanarasimha, has issued a call to action against the growing number of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the state. In a meeting with senior health officials on Monday, the Minister emphasized the need for dedicated treatment and awareness programs to combat this public health challenge.
To address the rising incidence of NCDs like hypertension, diabetes, heart diseases, and kidney disorders, the Minister proposed the establishment of specialized NCD clinics. These clinics, modeled after existing Mother and Child Health (MCH) centres, will be initially set up in teaching hospitals with plans to expand to district and area hospitals.
The Minister stressed the importance of equipping these clinics with diagnostic tools, necessary medications, and skilled medical professionals to provide comprehensive care. He also highlighted the need for public awareness campaigns to educate citizens about the consequences of unhealthy lifestyles and the potential complications of untreated NCDs.
“These conditions not only reduce one’s lifespan but also impose a significant financial burden on affected families,” Mr. Rajanarasimha stated.
Health officials reported that NCDs currently account for 60% of the total disease load in the region, underscoring the urgency of the situation. The Minister further directed improvements to the existing Aarogyasri health insurance program, emphasizing the need for enhanced accessibility and user-friendliness to ensure seamless care for patients.
