Skoda India has officially launched its highly anticipated sub-compact SUV, the Skoda Kylaq, in the Indian market. The SUV, which has been eagerly awaited by enthusiasts, boasts an attractive design and a powerful engine. It is priced starting at ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom).

The name Kylaq itself was chosen through a public contest, where over 2 lakh entries were received. The final name, which is inspired by Mount Kailash and crystals, was chosen through a public vote.

The Kylaq is built on the MQB A0-IN platform, shared with other Skoda and Volkswagen models like the Kushaq and Slavia. Its design features split headlamps, squared-off taillights, a butterfly front grille, and LED projector headlamps. The Kylaq is slightly longer than the Mahindra XUV 300 with a length of 3,995 mm and a wheelbase of 2,566 mm. It also comes equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels and has a ground clearance of 189 mm.

Powering the Kylaq is a 1.0-liter TSI turbo-petrol engine producing 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual or a torque converter automatic transmission.

The Kylaq’s cabin shares a similar design with the Kushaq, featuring a two-spoke steering wheel, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It boasts a host of features including a sunroof, keyless entry, wireless phone charger, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, front seat ventilation, and leatherette upholstery. The Kylaq also features power-adjustable seats for both the driver and front passenger, which is a unique offering in this segment.

Safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Electronic Differential Lock, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Skoda claims the Kylaq can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 10.5 seconds, making it one of the fastest compact SUVs in its segment.

With its stylish design, powerful engine, and impressive feature list, the Skoda Kylaq is poised to be a strong contender in the sub-compact SUV market.
