Wed Nov 06 12:43:08 UTC 2024: ## Sharjah Cricket Stadium Makes History with 300th International Men’s Match
**Sharjah, UAE:** The iconic Sharjah Cricket Stadium etched its name in the annals of cricket history on Wednesday by hosting its 300th international men’s match, a milestone unmatched by any other venue globally. The occasion saw Afghanistan take on Bangladesh in the first ODI of a three-match series.
The UAE venue, which boasts a rich cricket history, has played host to 253 ODIs, 38 T20s, and 10 Test matches. Its significance was further underscored in 2023 when the West Stand was renamed the Sachin Tendulkar Stand, a tribute to the Indian cricketing legend whose exploits at Sharjah are legendary.
Tendulkar’s twin centuries in April 1998, a staggering 143 and 134 in the Coca-Cola Cup, are fondly remembered by fans worldwide. These scores, alongside his other successes at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, cemented his legacy as a true master of the game.
In the historic match, Afghanistan, after winning the toss, opted to bat first. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi cited the pitch’s favorable conditions and the potential for movement under lights as the rationale for their decision. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, however, expressed his team’s confidence and readiness for the challenge.
