**New Delhi, India:** Skoda is finally launching its highly anticipated compact SUV, the Kylaq, in India today. The world premiere of the vehicle will take place at 12:30 PM on Jio Cinema, marking the first time a car launch will be unveiled on an OTT platform.
The Kylaq, designed to compete with popular models like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, and Hyundai Venue, will be unveiled in a cinematic fashion by Rohit Shetty, director of the blockbuster film “Singham Again.”
Though pricing remains undisclosed, reports suggest the Kylaq may be priced below INR 10 lakh, making it a potential contender for the budget-conscious segment. However, Skoda will need to focus on improving its service network in India to match the likes of Maruti Suzuki, whose dominance is largely attributed to its widespread service points.
Performance-wise, the Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that generates 115 bhp and 178 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter gearbox.
Built on the MQB AO IN platform, known for its lightweight yet robust build, the Kylaq boasts a stylish design with Skoda’s signature bold grille, LED headlights with split DRLs, a redesigned bonnet and bumper, and LED taillights. Other features include black roof rails and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Safety is paramount, with the Kylaq expected to offer 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, disc brakes, and brake assist. It is also being designed with a 5-star safety rating in mind.
Skoda is hopeful that the Kylaq will be a hit with Indian customers, targeting a market that is increasingly seeking compact SUVs with a stylish design, strong performance, and advanced safety features.
