Wed Nov 06 08:18:07 UTC 2024: ## Indian MP Rebukes Pakistan at UN, Defends Kashmir Elections
**New York, November 6, 2024:** Indian Member of Parliament Rajiv Shukla sharply criticized Pakistan during a UN session on Wednesday, accusing the country of using the forum to spread “lies and falsehood” regarding the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Shukla, addressing the UN General Assembly’s Fourth Committee, pointed out that Pakistan had once again raised the issue of Kashmir, despite the recent successful and democratic elections in the region. He emphasized that the high voter turnout in the three-phase elections, which saw participation exceeding 60% across all phases, clearly demonstrates the trust the people of Jammu and Kashmir have in India’s democratic institutions.
“A delegation has yet again used this august forum for peddling lies and falsehood,” Shukla stated, referring to the Pakistani delegation. He asserted that “real democracies function differently,” and that Pakistan’s attempts to discredit the elections are based on “disinformation and misinformation.”
Shukla urged Pakistan to “engage more constructively in this forum rather than using it for their divisive political agenda.” He concluded his speech by reiterating India’s commitment to supporting the UN’s Department of Global Communications in its efforts to combat misinformation and promote peace.
The recent elections in Jammu and Kashmir were a significant event, with the region having a long history of political instability. Pakistan has long maintained a controversial stance on the region, claiming it as part of its own territory.
