Wed Nov 06 11:08:14 UTC 2024: ## Rahul Gandhi Vows to Make Telangana Model for Caste Census, Targets Modi Over Reservations

**Hyderabad, India -** Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has pledged full support for the upcoming caste census in Telangana, vowing to make the state a model for similar initiatives across India. Speaking at a rally on Tuesday, Gandhi described caste discrimination in India as “unique” and among the worst in the world. He further stated his commitment to dismantling the current 50% reservation cap, calling it an artificial barrier.

Gandhi emphasized that the caste census is a crucial first step in understanding the extent and nature of discrimination. He acknowledged potential shortcomings in the survey but assured that these will be addressed.

In a pointed attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gandhi questioned why Modi is hesitant to conduct a caste census to assess the representation of Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis in key sectors like corporate, judiciary, and media.

Gandhi reiterated his commitment to a national caste census, a promise he made in Parliament on behalf of the Congress party. He has been a vocal advocate for the census, even stating in August that no force can stop it.

The Congress party, in its 2024 Lok Sabha elections manifesto, pledged to conduct a caste census if elected to power. They proposed a nationwide socio-economic and caste census to enumerate castes and sub-castes, along with a constitutional amendment to raise the 50% cap on reservations.
