Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Republican candidate Donald Trump on his projected victory in the US presidential elections. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Modi said, “Heartiest congratulations my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic election victory. As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity.”
Trump is projected to secure the necessary 270 electoral votes for victory, with wins in key swing states including Pennsylvania.
Earlier, India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had indicated that India’s relationship with the US would continue to strengthen, regardless of the election outcome. While acknowledging the US’s potential for isolationist tendencies, Jaishankar emphasized the importance of viewing the US as a whole entity, beyond the ideologies of individual administrations.
Modi’s congratulations and his commitment to strengthening the India-US partnership signal a continued strong relationship between the two nations, regardless of who occupies the White House.
