**Cairo, Egypt** – Nigeria’s Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, and India’s Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, met at the World Urban Forum in Cairo to discuss strengthening housing development partnerships. The two countries aim to explore collaborative urban development initiatives, drawing on India’s expertise in urban housing and sustainable city development.

Key areas of cooperation include Nigeria’s “Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme,” focusing on affordable housing, social housing schemes, building resilient and sustainable cities, and addressing challenges posed by informal settlements. Nigeria’s plan to establish Building Materials Manufacturing Hubs, aiming to boost local production and create jobs, was also discussed.

Minister Dangiwa highlighted the importance of cross-country collaboration, noting that sharing experiences with India will be crucial for developing innovative housing solutions. Minister Lal expressed India’s strong support, emphasizing the mutual benefits of the partnership. “We have tested and learned how to do things better,” he said, “and we are happy to share our expertise to help Nigeria address its urban housing and infrastructure needs.”

The meeting at WUF12 reflects Nigeria’s commitment to international cooperation in advancing its housing and urban development goals. The collaboration with India is expected to be instrumental in achieving Nigeria’s ambitious goal of providing affordable and inclusive housing to its citizens while fostering sustainable urban communities.
