Wed Nov 06 13:35:41 UTC 2024: ## Midnight Raid Sparks Political Firestorm in Kerala
**Palakkad, Kerala:** A high-profile police raid on a hotel in Palakkad early Wednesday morning has ignited a political firestorm in Kerala, just weeks before crucial by-elections. The incident, which allegedly targeted Congress leaders and their suspected stash of illicit campaign funds, has led to heated accusations and protests across the state.
The raid, which took place at the behest of the Election Commission of India (ECI), focused on the rooms of Congress campaigners Shanimol Usman and Bindu Krishna. While the police claim they were searching for black money, no such funds were found. The incident, however, has sparked outrage among Congress workers who accuse the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) of orchestrating a political attack.
“This was a blatant attempt to smear our candidate and disrupt our campaign,” said V.D. Satheesan, Leader of the Opposition, who questioned the police’s decision to conduct the raid without informing ECI officials.
The raid was further fueled by a large gathering of CPI(M) and BJP workers outside the hotel, who accused Congress candidate Rahul Mamkootathil of hiding cash. The incident escalated to near-brawls between party workers at the hotel.
The Congress, meanwhile, has accused Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s office of complicity in the raid, alleging a conspiracy to help the BJP in the Palakkad by-election.
The raid, which has dominated headlines and social media, has further intensified the political tension in the state, casting a shadow over the upcoming by-elections in Chelakkara, Palakkad Assembly constituencies, and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. With the incident generating significant controversy, it remains to be seen how it will ultimately impact the election outcome.
