Liverpool will be looking to solidify their position in the UEFA Champions League Group Stage on Wednesday, November 6th, as they face former midfielder Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen at Anfield.

The Reds are currently in second place with 9 points, trailing leaders Aston Villa by goal difference. A win against Leverkusen would see them potentially overtake Villa, who have a tough match against Real Madrid on the same night. Liverpool are in strong form, having won their last three Champions League games.

For Alonso, it will be an emotional return to Anfield. The Spanish midfielder was a fan favourite during his time at Liverpool, winning the Champions League trophy in 2005. He played 210 games for the Reds between 2004 and 2009 and will no doubt be looking to achieve a positive result against his former club.

Leverkusen have been impressive in the Champions League, winning two of their three games and drawing the other. They will be looking to upset Liverpool and spoil Alonso’s return to Anfield.
