Wed Nov 06 11:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Historic Wins Shake Up Delaware Politics

Delaware saw a wave of historic victories on Election Day, with a first-time female and Black senator, the first openly transgender member of Congress, and a new governor.

**Kamala Harris** easily secured Delaware’s three electoral votes, solidifying its position as a Democratic stronghold.

**Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester** made history as the first woman and first Black person to represent Delaware in the U.S. Senate, defeating Republican Eric Hansen. Blunt Rochester’s victory was widely expected, given Democrats’ strong voter registration advantage in the state.

**State Sen. Sarah McBride** became the first openly transgender person to serve in Congress, defeating Republican John Whalen III for Delaware’s lone House seat. McBride, a national LGBTQ activist, raised significant funds from across the country.

**Matt Meyer**, a former school teacher and small business owner, was elected as Delaware’s new governor, defeating Delaware House minority leader Michael Ramone. Meyer’s victory follows Democrat John Carney’s decision not to seek re-election.

Voters also selected candidates for nine state senate districts and 40 legislative districts in the Delaware House of Representatives.

While these races played out in Delaware, the national spotlight is on the presidential election, with **Donald Trump** projected to be the 47th President of the United States.
