Wed Nov 06 09:08:23 UTC 2024: ## Trump Votes in Florida, Dodges Abortion Question Amid Tight Race

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump cast his ballot in Palm Beach, Florida on Tuesday, but refused to disclose his stance on the state’s controversial abortion measure. When pressed twice on how he voted, Trump snapped at a reporter, telling them to “just stop talking about that.”

The ballot measure in question, if passed, would prevent Florida lawmakers from restricting abortion access before fetal viability, typically considered after 21 weeks. Trump evaded the question, focusing instead on his role in “bringing it back to the states,” a reference to his Supreme Court appointments that overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022.

While Trump initially appeared to support the measure, he recently indicated he would vote against it. In August, he criticized Florida’s six-week abortion ban on Fox News, calling it “a mistake” and stating that “six weeks, you need more time.” However, he simultaneously accused Democrats of holding “radical” views on late-term abortions, a recurring claim.

The Florida ballot measure is part of a wave of similar initiatives across eight states, where voters are deciding on constitutional protections for abortion rights. If certain amendments pass in states like Arizona, Missouri, Nebraska, and South Dakota, it could overturn existing bans or restrictions, impacting access for over 7 million women of childbearing age in those regions.

According to projections from the Associated Press, Donald Trump currently leads with 267 electoral votes, just three short of the 270 required to win. Kamala Harris trails with 214 electoral votes. Trump has garnered approximately 68 million votes, representing 51.2 percent of the popular vote, while Harris has secured nearly 63 million votes, or 47.4 percent. While Trump’s lead appears significant, the race remains uncalled by the Associated Press.
