Tue Nov 05 22:13:18 UTC 2024: ## IPL Auction Moves to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

**MUMBAI, November 5, 2024:** The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25, marking the second time the event will be held overseas. The venue shift from the initially shortlisted Riyadh was due to logistical reasons, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) choosing the Abadi Al-Johar Arena in Jeddah for its larger capacity.

The BCCI’s operations team conducted site visits in both cities before settling on Jeddah, which boasts the capacity to accommodate a large gathering and features several high-end hotels. The venue is a mere 10-minute drive from the Hotel Shangri-la, which will house the participating teams and officials.

The auction dates coincide with the third and fourth days of India’s first Test against Australia in Perth, which begins on November 22. However, the time difference between Saudi Arabia and Australia ensures that the events won’t clash in terms of broadcasting slots.

A total of 1574 players have registered for the auction, including 320 capped players, 1224 uncapped players, and 30 from Associate Nations, as confirmed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
