Wed Nov 06 14:12:51 UTC 2024: ## Government Rajaji Hospital to Host Marathon to Boost Blood Donations

**Madurai, November 6, 2024:** In a bid to encourage more people to donate blood, the blood donors club of Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) will host a 10-kilometer marathon on November 24th. The marathon, titled “Udhiram-24” (Blood – 24), aims to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation.

The GRH blood donors club, which has been functioning for over 54 years, has consistently achieved the highest number of blood donations in the region. This success is attributed to various outreach programs organized by the hospital to educate and encourage people to donate blood, according to M. Sintha, Head of the Department of Transfusion Medicine.

From April to June 2024 alone, GRH received a remarkable 29,774 blood donations. The “Udhiram-24” marathon is another initiative aimed at promoting blood donation. The winner of the race will receive a cash prize of ₹72,000.
