Wed Nov 06 15:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Kerala Cabinet Approves Relief Funds, Extends Commissions, and Greenlights Projects
**Thiruvananthapuram, November 6, 2024:** The Kerala State Cabinet met today and approved several crucial decisions, including financial aid for families of accident victims, extension of judicial commissions, and new projects.
The Cabinet sanctioned ₹4 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund to the families of four individuals who perished in an accident at the Anjoottambalam Veerarkavu Bhagavathy temple in Kasaragod. The accident involved a fire caused by a stash of firecrackers.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved ₹3 lakh each for the families of sanitation workers from Salem, Tamil Nadu, who were killed while cleaning the Shornur railway bridge. The workers were struck by a train.
The Cabinet also extended the tenure of the V.K. Mohan judicial commission, set up to investigate the “directionless and inconclusive” probes by central agencies into the UAE gold smuggling case. The Commission’s term has been extended by another six months, effective November 7, 2024.
The Commission’s tenure was also extended for another six months with effect from November 12, 2024, in connection with its probe into the Tanur boat tragedy in Malappuram. The Commission is investigating the causes of the tragedy and will recommend measures to prevent similar accidents.
The Cabinet approved a government guarantee of ₹30 crore to Kerala Paper Products Ltd. to facilitate working capital from banks.
Furthermore, the Cabinet sanctioned the creation of a new post for an Associate Professor of Nephrology at Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital.
The Cabinet also ratified the establishment of a special office and the creation of 17 temporary posts for one year to handle applications and issue title deeds in Erumeli north, Erumeli south, and Korithod villages in Kottayam district.
Finally, the Cabinet authorized the Director of Kerala Minerals and Metals Limited (KMML) in Kollam to lease five acres of land to the company for a 10-year period for the establishment of an iron oxide residue processing plant and an ETP sludge processing plant.
