Wed Nov 06 11:00:43 UTC 2024: ## BJP Leader Mithun Chakraborty Faces FIR for Provocative Speech in West Bengal
**Kolkata, November 6, 2024:** Actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty, a prominent figure in the BJP, is facing an FIR for allegedly making a provocative speech during a party event in West Bengal. The complaint, filed on Wednesday by Bidhannagar Police, stems from a speech delivered by Mr. Chakraborty at a BJP membership drive held in Salt Lake on October 27th.
The controversial speech, made in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saw Mr. Chakraborty declare that the BJP would claim victory in the 2026 Assembly elections, promising to take any necessary measures to achieve this goal. He also issued a warning against intimidation of BJP voters, referencing previous communal remarks made by a TMC MLA during the Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP has countered the accusations, claiming the FIR is a result of “vendetta politics” and that Mr. Chakraborty’s speech contained nothing provocative. The party’s state president, Sukanta Majumdar, asserted that the use of police as a political tool is an attempt to intimidate the BJP leader.
The investigation into Mr. Chakraborty’s speech is ongoing. This incident is likely to further fuel tensions between the BJP and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, ahead of the crucial 2026 state elections.
