Wed Nov 06 16:28:23 UTC 2024: ## Road to Anaipallam Remains Cut Off After Heavy Rains in Coonoor
**Coonoor, November 6, 2024:** The Nilgiris District Collector, Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, visited Coonoor today to assess the damage caused by recent heavy rainfall. The Collector inspected a damaged retaining wall near a private school and the severely affected road connecting Pilloor Mattam to Anaipallam.
The road, which was damaged during the downpour, currently allows only emergency vehicles to pass. Residents of Anaipallam and surrounding tribal hamlets are facing difficulties as they have to walk a total of 6 km to reach Pilloor Mattam, the nearest bus stand, due to the road closure.
“A round-trip to the bus stand would mean walking 12 km,” residents reported. “There are no buses, and the only alternative to walking is a taxi service.”
The Hulical town panchayat has deployed around 60 workers to restore road connectivity. As a temporary measure, sandbags are being used to support the road while repairs are underway.
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Forest Department has started identifying and enumerating dangerous trees along the road. This comes after a taxi driver was killed when a tree fell on his vehicle last Saturday.
