**New Delhi, November 6, 2024:** Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena conducted an inspection on Tuesday of the ongoing conservation and restoration work at Gole Market, which is being redeveloped into a museum dedicated to the contributions of Indian women.
The project, which was launched by the L-G last October 21st, is estimated to cost ₹21.66 crore. The museum will showcase the significant roles women have played in art, literature, culture, society, medicine, science, technology, and the freedom struggle.
During the inspection, officials informed Mr. Saxena that the project focuses on strengthening the foundation of the historic building with steel reinforcement.
Constructed in 1921, the original Gole Market served as a central shopping hub for poultry, groceries, and other goods for many years. The transformation of the heritage building into a museum is a testament to its historical significance and aims to highlight the vital contributions of Indian women throughout history.
