Wed Nov 06 13:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Dallas Artist Shot After Performance, Suspect Arrested

Dallas, TX – Singer Jada Arnell Thomas was shot following a performance at the Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL) in downtown Dallas on Saturday evening. Witnesses say Thomas was signing autographs when a woman in the crowd, identified as Micah Williams, 26, fired a single shot, striking the artist.

Curtis King, TBAAL founder and director, described the scene as surreal, with the crowd stunned into silence after the gunshot. King and TBAAL staff pursued the shooter outside, while calling 911. Dallas Police Department officers apprehended Williams inside the lobby of a nearby hotel and recovered a handgun.

Williams was booked into the Dallas County jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, with a bond set at $200,000. Police have not released a motive for the shooting and it is unclear if Thomas and Williams knew each other.

Thomas remains hospitalized, but according to King, is recovering and making progress. Her family has expressed gratitude for the prayers and support from the Dallas arts community. King emphasized Thomas’ resilience and strength, stating “She will sing and soar and she’ll be even better when she gets back on her feet.”

TBAAL has announced plans to strengthen security protocols, including reducing entry points and implementing enhanced screening procedures, in response to the incident.
