Tue Nov 05 19:18:11 UTC 2024: ## CPI(M) Demands Judicial Probe into Death of 16-Year-Old Domestic Worker in Chennai

**Chennai, November 6, 2024:** Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) staged a demonstration in Chennai on Tuesday, demanding a judicial probe into the murder of a 16-year-old girl who was employed as a domestic worker. The girl, who was from Thanjavur, was found dead at a house in Aminjikarai, where she worked for a businessman’s family.

G. Selva, Chennai Central District secretary of the CPI(M), raised concerns about the lack of oversight on the girl’s education after she dropped out of school. He alleged a rise in the number of minors from rural areas employed as bonded laborers in Chennai and called for the State government to address this issue.

While six individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, the CPI(M) expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation process and demanded a thorough judicial inquiry. Mr. Selva also urged the State government to provide compensation to the victim’s family.
