Wed Nov 06 13:42:36 UTC 2024: ## Congress Dissolves Himachal Pradesh Unit Amidst Factionalism
**New Delhi, November 6, 2024:** In a move aimed at restructuring the party’s Himachal Pradesh unit, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has dissolved the entire Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), along with all district and block units, with immediate effect.
The decision comes amidst ongoing factionalism within the Himachal Congress, which was evident during the February Rajya Sabha election, when ruling Congress candidate Abhishek Singhvi lost to BJP’s Harsh Mahajan due to defections and cross-voting by some Congress MLAs.
Outgoing PCC president Pratibha Singh, wife of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, has already been elevated to the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s highest decision-making body. Ms. Singh was appointed as State Congress chief in 2022.
An official communication from AICC general secretary K. C. Venugopal confirmed the Congress president’s approval to dissolve the entire state unit, including district presidents and Block Congress Committees, effective immediately.
The move signals a significant shakeup within the Himachal Congress, as the party seeks to address internal divisions and strengthen its position in the state.
