Tue Nov 05 02:05:58 UTC 2024: ## Chhath Puja Brings Economic Boost to India

**New Delhi, November 4:** The four-day Chhath Puja festival, observed primarily by people from Bihar, Jharkhand, and Purvanchali communities across India, is expected to bring a significant economic boost to the country.

According to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the festival is estimated to generate approximately ₹12,000 crores in trade nationwide. This is attributed to the high demand for traditional Chhath Puja essentials, including bamboo baskets, banana leaves, sugarcane, sweets, fruits, vegetables, and traditional attire.

The festivities are expected to see participation from an estimated 150 million people, with cities like Delhi, known for its large Purvanchali population, witnessing grand celebrations. Markets across the city are bustling with shoppers purchasing essential items.

“Chhath Puja is not just a religious festival, but an integral part of Indian culture,” said CAIT Secretary General and Member of Parliament, Praveen Khandelwal. “It reflects social unity and dedication and also boosts trade, directly benefiting local producers, reinforcing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) vision.”

The festival also provides significant employment opportunities for local artisans and craftspeople, who create many of the traditional items used during Chhath Puja. This contributes to the growth of cottage industries across the country.
