**Erode, Tamil Nadu:** Three individuals, including a couple from Nagercoil who purchased a 50-day-old baby girl, were arrested by the Erode North police on Monday. The arrested individuals are Jeyachandran, his wife Agila Rani, and the middleman Jeyabalan.
The investigation revealed that Nithya, a 28-year-old woman, and her partner Santhosh Kumar, also 28, decided to sell their baby girl after her birth at the District Headquarters Hospital two months ago. They allegedly sold the baby for ₹4 lakh to the couple from Nagercoil, facilitated by four women brokers.
Nithya later alerted the District Child Welfare Committee, who filed a complaint with the police. The police subsequently arrested Santhosh Kumar, Nithya, and the four women brokers on Sunday. During questioning, the brokers revealed that another broker, Jeyabalan, was also involved in the transaction.
The police are actively searching for other individuals involved in the baby trafficking ring.
