Tue Nov 05 04:44:42 UTC 2024: ## Quincy Jones, Music Legend, Dies at 91
**Bel Air, CA:** Quincy Jones, the legendary musician, producer, and arranger, passed away at his home in Bel Air, California, on Sunday, February 11, 2024. He was 91.
Jones, a true polymath of music, touched nearly every genre during his seven-decade career. From jazz to soul, funk to pop, his fingerprints are on some of the most iconic albums in history. He is best known for his work with Michael Jackson, producing the iconic albums “Off the Wall,” “Thriller,” and “Bad.” These collaborations redefined the pop landscape, showcasing Jackson’s talents and setting a new standard for musical sophistication.
“His body of work is incomparable,” said Motown founder Berry Gordy. “He had the ability to move seamlessly over seven decades… and was a master with them all.”
Jones’s impact, however, extended far beyond Jackson. He collaborated with some of the biggest names in music history, including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, and Aretha Franklin. His contributions to the world of music went beyond recording; he was a master arranger, conductor, and composer, scoring films and TV shows like “In Cold Blood” and “In the Heat of the Night.”
Jones was renowned for his meticulousness in the studio, often searching through hundreds of demos before finding the perfect song for an artist. He pushed boundaries with his use of technology and musical arrangements, blending old-school musicality with cutting-edge sounds.
“Quincy’s philosophy was an outhouse bottom with a penthouse view,” said Whitney Houston producer Narada Michael Walden. “It’s gotta have a stank on the bottom, and then be pretty with a skyline view on top.”
Despite his humble beginnings in Chicago during the Great Depression, Jones rose to become one of the most celebrated musicians of all time, winning 28 Grammy Awards and receiving 79 nominations.
Though his musical output slowed in recent years, Jones remained active, launching Qwest TV, an online library of jazz video content. His legacy, however, will live on in the countless songs he produced and the generations of artists he inspired.
“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” the family said in a statement. “And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”
