Tue Nov 05 03:53:07 UTC 2024: ## Modi Condemns Brampton Temple Attack, Calls for Justice from Canada

**OTTAWA, CANADA -** Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued a strong condemnation of the attack on a Hindu temple in Brampton, Ontario, by pro-Khalistani extremists. This is Modi’s first statement on the issue since diplomatic tensions between India and Canada escalated last September.

“I strongly condemn the deliberate attack on a Hindu temple in Canada. Equally appalling are the cowardly attempts to intimidate our diplomats. Such acts of violence will never weaken India’s resolve. We expect the Canadian government to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law,” Modi wrote on X.

The attack on the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton follows a series of provocative acts by pro-Khalistani groups in Canada, including the clash with devotees outside the temple.

While Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned the attack, he did not specifically address the role of pro-Khalistani elements in the violence. This comes after Canada’s government has faced criticism from its own Liberal Party MPs for failing to provide evidence for its allegations that the Indian government was involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2022.

Modi also criticized Canada for placing Indian consular staff under video and audio surveillance, rejecting Ottawa’s allegations against India’s Home Minister Amit Shah.

The latest incident has further strained relations between India and Canada. India withdrew its envoy from Ottawa and expelled six Canadian diplomats in response to Canada’s accusations against the Indian government. The situation remains tense, with both countries awaiting concrete evidence and a resolution to the ongoing diplomatic crisis.
