Mon Nov 04 18:09:45 UTC 2024: ## Karnataka Government Releases 25% of Pending Dues to BBMP Contractors

**Bengaluru, November 4, 2024:** In a much-needed relief for contractors working under the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the Karnataka government has announced the release of 25% of their pending dues. The decision follows months of protests by contractors who have been facing financial hardship due to delayed payments.

The Urban Development Department (UDD) issued an order on Monday directing the BBMP to clear 25% of the total bill amount for all completed works. This partial payment comes after a period of stalled payments initiated in 2023 when the government established the Justice H. N. Nagamohan Das committee to investigate allegations of corruption in BBMP projects.

The government had previously released 75% of pending bills pertaining to projects completed between April 2021 and September 2021. Following continued pressure from contractors, the government has now agreed to release the remaining 25% of the bill amount.

Furthermore, the UDD has ordered the BBMP to pay 100% of the bill amount for all completed works for which payments have not yet been cleared. This applies specifically to projects completed after September 2021.

The government’s decision to release the pending dues will bring significant relief to contractors, allowing them to continue their operations and contribute to the city’s infrastructure development.
