Mon Nov 04 16:15:24 UTC 2024: ## Suspect in Kolkata Doctor’s Rape-Murder Claims Framing, Trial Set for November

**Kolkata, India -** Sanjay Roy, the sole suspect in the horrific rape and murder of a Kolkata doctor in August, has vehemently declared his innocence, claiming he is being framed by the government. Roy made the startling accusations as charges were formally framed against him today, 87 days after the incident that sparked nationwide outrage and protests by junior doctors across India.

Roy, a civic volunteer who had access to the hospital, was caught on CCTV footage entering the hospital just after midnight on August 9th, shortly before the doctor was found murdered. The CBI has stated that CCTV footage places him at the crime scene and that evidence, including a Bluetooth earphone found at the scene, links him to the crime.

Despite the evidence, Roy has maintained his innocence, claiming that the government is framing him to protect the real culprits. While being escorted from the courtroom, he shouted to journalists, “I have done nothing! I have been framed… The government is threatening me.” He previously underwent a polygraph test, insisting it would prove his innocence.

The charges against Roy were framed under sections 103(2), 64, and 66 of the Indian Penal Code. The trial is set to begin on November 11th.

This case has been met with widespread scrutiny, with many initially suspecting gang rape. However, the CBI, after recording over 100 statements and conducting numerous polygraph tests, including those of hospital officials, determined that Roy is the sole accused. The investigation relied heavily on digital and material evidence gathered by the Kolkata Police.

The doctor’s tragic death sent shockwaves across India, sparking protests from junior doctors demanding improved safety and security measures in hospitals. The trial promises to bring much-needed answers and justice for the victim’s family and the medical community.
