Mon Nov 04 13:46:38 UTC 2024: ## India Slip to Second in WTC Standings After Historic NZ Clean Sweep
Mumbai, India – A historic 3-0 clean sweep by New Zealand in the recent Test series against India has seen a major shake-up in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table. India, who previously held the top spot, now sits in second with a points percentage (PCT) of 58.33, overtaken by Australia who leads with 62.5 PCT.
New Zealand, who were in fifth place prior to the Mumbai Test, have climbed to fourth with a PCT of 54.550 after their impressive victory.
This series loss has significantly hampered India’s chances of reaching the WTC final in 2025, although they remain in contention. To secure their place, they must win at least four of their remaining five Tests in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
New Zealand, on the other hand, will need to win all three of their remaining home Tests against England to keep their hopes alive.
Captain Rohit Sharma has acknowledged the team’s struggles and admitted to a “captaincy failure”. With the pressure mounting, India will need to regroup and perform at their best in the upcoming series to salvage their WTC ambitions.
