Mon Nov 04 18:18:34 UTC 2024: ## Vishwa Konkani Samaroh 2024 to Celebrate Konkani Language and Culture in Mangaluru
**Mangaluru, November 4, 2024:** The Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation, World Konkani Centre, Mangaluru, will host the Vishwa Konkani Samaroh – 2024, a two-day celebration of Konkani language and culture, starting on Tuesday, November 5th. The event will culminate with the presentation of the Vishwa Konkani Awards – 2024 on Wednesday, November 6th.
The inaugural ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday morning at 9:30 AM at the World Konkani Centre in Shakthinagar, will be presided over by Dilip G. Naik, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education. The ceremony will also feature the unveiling of a portrait of renowned cine actress Pandari Bai.
The two-day event will include a diverse program. Tuesday’s schedule features literary sessions focusing on “Education in Post-Independence India with special reference to Konkani,” “Humor in Konkani Literature,” and “Culture of Reading Konkani.” The finals of the All India Konkani Poetry Reciting Competition will also be held on Tuesday. The evening will be filled with folk performances, including Kudubi and traditional Holi dances.
Wednesday, November 6th, will be dedicated to recognizing outstanding contributions to Konkani culture. The prestigious late Vimala V. Pai Sahitya Puraskar will be presented to Fr. Mousinho De Ataide for lifetime achievement and Prakash D. Naik for his work in poetry. The late Basti Vaman Shenoy Seva Puraskar will be awarded to Seva Bharati of Mangaluru for their work in education, healthcare, and social service, and to Veena Adige of Mumbai for her contributions to Socio-Cultural Community Service.
