Mon Nov 04 11:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Hampton Roads Voters Embrace Early Voting, Seeking to Avoid Election Day Crowds

**NORFOLK, Va. -** With Election Day just around the corner, Hampton Roads voters flocked to polling stations Saturday for a final push of early voting. While some locations saw long lines in the hours leading up to the 5 p.m. deadline, voters in Norfolk reported a smooth and efficient experience.

“It was really easy,” said Carson Deardorff, a Norfolk voter, who walked right into the polling place. “No lines at all.”

Many voters expressed relief at having completed their civic duty early, citing concerns about potential Election Day crowds, especially those with mobility challenges.

“I was worried about the lines, especially with my disabled husband,” shared Kimberly Wise, another Norfolk voter. “So we decided to come this morning and get it done.”

Beyond avoiding potential wait times, voters emphasized the importance of their individual voices being heard in this election. Key issues driving voter participation included government finances, individual freedoms, and the protection of constitutional rights.

“This is probably the most important election in years,” stated Angel Snyder. “Women’s rights, basic human decency, fundamental rights are all at stake. It’s crucial to come out and support our fellow humans by voting for a better future.”

As of Saturday afternoon, Hampton had recorded over 25,500 in-person early voters, while Virginia Beach saw over 88,300. Suffolk reported over 20,200 early votes.

Statewide, 33.8% of registered voters participated in early voting, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.

Although early voting has concluded, voters still have the opportunity to cast their ballot on Election Day.
