Mon Nov 04 18:18:34 UTC 2024: ## Olympic Legend Eliud Kipchoge Celebrates 40th Birthday

This week marks the 40th birthday of Olympic marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge. The Kenyan runner, born on a farm in the Nandi Country province, has become one of the greatest marathon runners of all time.

Kipchoge has competed in five Olympic Games, missing out on a medal only at his most recent appearance in Paris 2024. His Olympic journey began at Athens 2004 where, at just 19 years old, he claimed bronze in the men’s 5000m event. He went on to win silver at Beijing 2008 and finally, secured his first Olympic gold medal in the marathon at Rio 2016.

In 2021, Kipchoge became the third man to win multiple Olympic marathons with his gold at Tokyo 2020. Beyond his Olympic achievements, Kipchoge holds the distinction of being the first man to run a sub-two-hour marathon, although this record is not officially recognized due to the conditions.

Kipchoge’s legacy extends beyond his countless records. He has inspired a generation of runners and pushed the boundaries of long-distance running, leaving an indelible mark on the sport. While his future Olympic participation remains uncertain, one thing is certain: Kipchoge’s impact on the world of athletics is undeniable.
